Beleza Brasileira

Steph again... So I've been thinking about design inspiration internationally and how it differs from what we see in the States. So naturally, since I spent a great 18 months in the awesome country of Brazil for my church, I was curious as to what they have to offer! South America is known for its bright and cheerful decor and I think this space totally represents that!

Projects

I (Paityn) am trying to get my craft room finished in the next 2 weeks. I was at DI with my sister in-law on Monday and came across a little sewing table. I bought it for $25 yay! The husband can't complain about that:) with the help of my sister we sanded, primed, and painted that bad boy.

I decided to leave you with the primer picture because it'll still need one more coat of paint and the hardware. You'll have to tune in on Sunday for the finished product!

Also here is the headboard my sister in-law snagged for $10!

I will post pics of what she does with it later.

from the nAtE sHoW

So now I have a love/dislike (hate is too strong a word here) relationship with the Nate Show. I love HIS style, I think he's a genius and he's just so dang cute! I look forward to his show everyday but sometimes I am disappointed, just because there's some really random things on his show! I guess they're trying to appeal to all women during daytime tv, not just "design enthusiasts" such as myself. But whatever...
So a couple weeks back there was a HouseProud segment featuring a Lizzie Carney and her 1930's bungalow, all decorated with vintage and thrift items. I think it looks SO awesome!

This kitchen is so rad

Instead of using an extra bedroom for an office, she decided she'd use a dressing room more... and check this OUT! I wonder what it'd take to convince my hubs that I need one too =)

The console table

Soooo not that I'm an expert, but I wanted to post things that'll hopefully help someone in their quest to dress their nest! (Ha nice rhyme eh?) I love good images that inspire and here's some favs: (and with some tips from marcus design).

Make sure the console table in functional if it's in the entryway: have a dish or cute tray as a catch-all for change, keys, etc. No one likes a disorderly foyer!

Layer your accessories and be sure they differ in sizes so that they're not all on the same plane

Symmetrical
The eye naturally rests on symmetry, and it certainly suits the organized and orderly (which isn't me per se, but I'm still a fan!) Fits my husband to a T in fact...

Can't get any more orderly than this... each side literally mirrors the other

Very similar and I love this as well

Can I steal this sunburst mirror? And table/dresser? Oh and those little Asian statues?

Love the white

i love the neutrals, but then splash of color

Asymmetry
This look is cool because it looks less staged, and more happenstance and casual. And really almost anything goes...

I will also take this lucite table

This is definitely off-centered.. and meant to be. Kinda tricky yeah?

Like totally..

I love me some awesome wallpapered backdrop!

Console table for your collections
Soooo I've learned a thing or two about collecting things: display them in odd numbers, and group them together instead of strewn about the house (or the room). Too many vignettes of the same object just look cluttery, but THIS looks very elegant

Alright, kinda a lot going on in this image but I like the idea of the little glass balls all on display

A touch of Animal Print

Animal print is not something my husband would ever let me incorporate into our home, nor is it something I am a huge fan of, BUT in the right room it can pop. I think if you have simple style and you need something to stand out then maybe a zebra printed rug or chair would do the trick. I have seen some adorable zebra printed chairs at TJ Max in green, purple, even pink and they were adorable!

I am seeing a trend here....

I remember a time I was single living with a particular roommate who would say that when she got married, her wedding colors were going to be black and seafoam. Seafoam green!! I thought how hideous, that's so old school and just a weird combination. That was back several years ago before seafoam has gotten so popular, and now I have to say, I am lovin it! From fashion to interiors, that minty green is everywhere!

I love the different ways you can use seafoam.. from soft neutrals, to bright and stunning paired with red and blues.
